Nisha Parekh is a singer-songwriter who weaves tales of love, loss, hope and faith with enchanting melodies, a rich, lilting voice, and a gentle touch on her guitar. Her genuine warmth is reflected in her songs and her enthusiasm and joy in sharing her craft is infectious.
Nisha grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and has been playing the guitar and singing for over 20 years. Her father, who is originally from India and her mother, born and raised in Canada, provided different perspectives growing up and exposure to different cultures and people allowed Nisha to gain a global perspective from a young age. Nisha's first guitar teacher was her Mom, whose musical influences included Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Woody Guthrie.
Nisha's musical influences include those she grew up listening to, as well as artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Nancy Griffith, Bonnie Raitt, Sarah McLachlan, David Francey, KT Tunstall and Ron Sexsmith. Nisha has more recently discovered a creative outlet in songwriting and her lyrics weave stories of personal experience, along with those of characters she has met. A social worker for 13 years, Nisha's empathy and respect for people shine through in the stories she creates in her music.
Nisha lives in Dunrobin, Ontario.
